In this video comparison, you can see the two different methods. The "DIY Method" or do-it-yourself method was done by projecting the film onto a screen and then capturing it to video through the use of a video camera. On the left, you will see the same video captured by the "workprinter" method, this is the machine I use to transfer the film. Notice the absence of flicker...also note there is no "hotspot". In other words, the entire frame is illuminated from corner to corner, rather than in the center of the frame like the old projectors do.
